Omnipotence Can Use Anything

Samuel Rutherford observes how God’s almighty power can use even the most insignificant means as though they had great power. He says that God does not use means because they are efficacious in themselves; rather it is because He uses them that they are efficacious. He used a ram’s horn to cause the walls of Jericho to fall. In God’s hand it was more powerful than the greatest weapons of war.  Thus even a straw may be a spear in God’s omnipotent hand if He chooses to use it for such a purpose.

“A straw is a spear to omnipotency” – Samuel Rutherford
