Nothing is more sacred and more important than the worship of God. Jesus commands us to worship in Spirit and in Truth.

This booklet will be helpful not only for those who conduct public worship but also for those seeking for worship that truly honours God.

ABOUT THIS BOOKLET

Pages

We hallow and sanctify God’s name when we give Him a holy and spiritual worship. This booklet describes a service of reverent worship grounded upon Scripture principles. It is extracted and updated from an older publication called The Directory of Public Worship yet it is in no way meant to replace the original document. Instead, it shows its abiding relevance and may encourage many to read the original for themselves.

True worship, says Jesus, must be in spirit and in truth. “In truth” means we must worship Him only in accordance with His Word.  Therefore, Scripture is the only yardstick of true worship.

So when we come to understand that Scripture warns us not add to or take away from what God requires in His Word in relation to worship (Deuteronomy 4:2, Matthew 15:8-9, Isaiah 29:13), we begin to realise that our individual opinions and preferences about worship are of no ultimate consequence compared to what the unchangeable God Himself requires.

After all, who knows better what is pleasing to God?  Him or us?

“Let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”

Hebrews 12:28
